Choice 1: 1 Player

Here are some game modes that you can play by yourself.

Marathon

In this mode, you play until your stack reaches the top. The longer you last, the faster the stacks will be raised. The ending will change depending on your performance.
Challenge

In this mode, you play against the Gym Leaders of the Gold/Silver games. Attack their Pokémon using combos and chains. When their Pokémon has run out of HP, you win the battle.
Time Zone

This is a race against time. In this mode, you try to get the highest score you can.
Line Clear

There are 6 rounds with 5 matches each. Try to clear all blocks above the white line to clear each match.

There are three save files to save your progress in this mode.
Puzzle

Clear the blocks in the fewest moves. You can receive hints if you are stuck - just press Select.

Garbage!

This mode is similar to the Marathon mode, but special blocks called "garbage" blocks periodically fall down on the playing field. Get rid of them and turn them into tiles by creating a combo next to them.

Choice 2: 2 Players

Here are some game modes that you can play with a friend.

2P Vs

Battle a friend in this mode. Try to make your opponent fill their screen to win. Combos and chains will cause "garbage" to fall on your opponent's screen.
Time Zone

Try to get a higher score than your opponent.
Line Clear

Try to clear all blocks above the white line to win.

Choice 3: Training

Here, you'll be trained to learn to play Puzzle Challenge. You'll learn about combos and chains, and even play and watch demos.

  • Practice - Here, you'll practice playing a game. The blocks will move slowly, so you'll do Active Chains more easily.
  • Demos - Here, you'll study the block-clearing techniques used in Puzzle Challenge and learn how to pull them off.

Choice 4: Controls

Control Pad: Move; A: Switch; B: Raise; B: Cancel (Puzzle Mode Only)

Choice 6: Options

Change the options for the game.

  • Match pt. - Number of points to win a match. Either 1P or 2P. Default is 1P.
  • ?-Sign - I don't know what this setting is for. Off by default.
  • Semi-Sign - I don't know what this setting is for. Off by default.
  • MUSIC - Allows you to hear the different music in the game.
  • SOUND - Allows you to hear the different sound effects in the game.
  • PKMN Data - View information on Pokémon you've seen.
  • Gallery - View pictures received when playing.
